It is with great love and sadness that we announce Gregory (Greg) Thomas Hamilton lost his battle with cancer on August 5, 2025, at the age of 67. He was surrounded by family, especially his wife of 42 years, Karen.

Born in Wetaskiwin, Greg was predeceased by his parents, Ron and Cecilia, and his older sister, Julie. He is remembered by his loving wife, Karen; sons Brodie, Blake (Courtney), and Quinn (Monique); grandchildren Zoe and Felix; brother Pat (Dana); sister Shelley (Brian); and numerous nieces and nephews.

Greg was a man of balance — meticulous in his career as an accountant, retiring as a partner from MNP in 2017. He was known for his sharp wit, kind heart, and unwavering loyalty to family and friends. Those who knew him best will remember his love for the numbers that shaped his professional life, but also the joy he found in time away from the office.

An avid golfer, Greg could often be found on the course, enjoying both the challenges of the game and the friendships forged over 18 holes. He was also a devoted curler, always ready for a good end and an even better post-game gathering — even winning the Derrick Men’s Curling Club Championship in 2016. With his snowbird lifestyle, Greg embraced travel and the warmth of southern winters, making lasting memories with friends and family wherever he went — whether it was on a cruise ship, wandering through Europe, or around the kitchen table down south.

Above all else, Greg was proud of his family. He especially adored his grandchildren and found endless joy in being their Grandpa. Whether it was playing on the floor, telling silly stories, or throwing regular dance parties, nothing brought him more happiness. Greg had a way of making their little faces light up with laughter and will be sorely missed.

We would like to thank the Dr. Chandra and staff at St. Joseph’s Auxiliary Hospital for the care and compassion shown to Greg in his final days.

In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations be made to the Alberta Cancer Foundation or the Canadian Cancer Society. Greg’s family has been affected by various types of cancer and would appreciate the support in beating this disease.

A Celebration of Greg’s Life will be held on Friday, September 12, 2025, at 11:30 AM at the Derrick Golf and Winter Club, 3500 – 119 ST NW, Edmonton, AB, T6J 5P5.

  5. Sad news indeed.

I knew Greg, Karen and their great family through hockey and from the Derrick.

I was fortunate to coach their son Quinn with Conferation Hockey in SW Edmonton.

All of my experiences with Greg and Family were all very positive and fun.

The last time I saw him was at the Derrick when he and Brodie were just heading out for a round of golf.

He always had a a great wit and a perspective on life, unique from most.

Our deepest Condolences to Karen and Family.

  8. My deepest condolences to the family. I worked with Greg (and Karen and Blake). I’ll always remember curling with Greg in a bonspiel and him insisting on me coming back to his house for lunch. Surprising Karen, of course, we had a lovely lunch and chat. Wishing his family peace and love.
