John Lewis Paterson
John is survived by his children Judy, Angela, Wanda, John, Pamela (Tarek), and Warren, his grandchildren Brad (Colleen), Rolf (Sierra), Jennifer Leslie, Mieke, and Maerek, and his great-grandchildren Holden, Harley, and Kayden. He is also survived by his brother Jim.
He was predeceased by his wife Ida. They were married 62 years. He was also predeceased by his parents John and Ellen Paterson, his brother Frank, and his sister Dorothy.
John was born in Taber, Alberta on April 11, 1937. He spent time in the military, training to become an electrician. After several years in that field, he attended the University of Alberta and became a Chartered Accountant.
He had a practical and no nonsense view of life, and also had strong family values. John was a lifelong animal lover, and will be remembered for his deep compassion and the joy his pets brought to his life. He never turned away any cat or dog that his children happened to bring home, and there were many over the years. As a young man, he was particularly close to his dog Pal, who helped him on his paper route by carrying newspapers in a specially made carrier.
In keeping with John’s wishes, he will be cremated and interred at Little Mountain Cemetery in Edmonton, Alberta. There will be a family-only service on the date of interment, yet to be determined.

I didn’t know John well, but I’m thankful for the family he raised, including my wife, Pamela. Thinking of you all during this difficult time.
We send our sincere condolences in the passing of Uncle John.

Thank you so much. Like many people of his generation, my Dad had a lot of unresolved pain. He is out of pain now.
My sincere condolences to you and your siblings. I see now where you and Judy got your passion for animal rescue. 🥰
Thank you, Laurie. That’s really kind of you to post and give your support.
