George Butner
It is with heavy hearts that the family announces George’s passing on December 6, 2025, at the age of 90 years.
George was born in 1935 in a farmhouse near Little Gem, Alberta.
He is survived by his loving wife, Anne; daughters Anita and Sandra; son Wayne; stepsons Troy and Ryan; nine grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; as well as many other relatives and friends.
George began his lengthy teaching career in May 1953 at just 17 years of age. He was a dedicated educator who cared deeply for his students and colleagues, serving both as a classroom teacher and for many years in administration.
His desire to serve others was evident throughout his life—in his work as a Boy Scout leader, museum director, his leadership in a camp for children with disabilities, and through many other contributions in the community.
George also enjoyed raising cattle and was an avid gardener and sports fan. After retirement, he established a tree farm. Fishing, hunting, and travelling were among his greatest passions.
The world will miss George and his unwavering commitment to making life better for others. He will be forever loved, deeply missed, and never forgotten by his family.
