Richard Jesley Finley (Bud)

It is with sadness that the family of Bud Finley announces his passing on December 30th, 2025 at the age of 91 years.

Bud was the eldest son of four children and was born in Hartell, Alberta to the late Lillian and Raleigh Finley. As a young boy his family lived in Trinidad, where he captured butterflies, tangled with Devil Fish, tarantulas, and Jack Spaniard wasps, and had many adventures that he loved to share throughout his life.

Bud graduated with a degree in Electrical Engineering in 1958 and maintained close ties with his classmates. He worked throughout British Columbia, Alberta, and Ontario. Bud loved a challenge and could re-engineer or fix almost anything. Family, friends, and even complete strangers benefited from his unique skills.

He especially loved spending time at his acreage, where he battled beavers, transplanted trees, designed a trout-stocked lake, and tended his winding pathways.

Bud will be lovingly remembered by his children: Lori Finley (J.C.), Kandy Lovse (Tony), Kym Schreiner (Kurt); grandchildren Kristin (Raad), Fraser (Chelsea), Rogan (Andréa), Tyana, Katja (Kirill), and Marleina; great grandchildren Ava, Alyssa, and Lyra. He is survived by his sister Carol, his brother Robin, and their families.

Bud was pre-deceased by his beloved wife Jean of 61 years, and his sister Joy.

Bud’s wishes were to not have a service for his passing.

If desired, memorial donations may be made in Bud’s name to the charity of your choice.

  1. Dear Lori, Kandy, Kym and families
Uncle Bud was friendly and easy to talk to – I enjoyed our chats and will miss him. It is so sad that he was the last of that generation in our family.
    In Sympathy and Love
    Lyn

  2. Though I was from the grandchild generation (Art & Dorothy’s grandchild) and didn’t spend a great deal of time talking with him, my memories are filled with his warm smile, friendly presence, and the happiness he showed whenever our families gathered together.
