Ross Granville Arthur
In Loving Memory
Ross Granville Arthur
It is with heavy hearts that we say goodbye to a loving husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, who passed away very peacefully at the Grey Nuns Hospital in Edmonton, Alberta, on December 5, 2025, at the age of 95.
Ross was born on May 12, 1930 in Kipling, Saskatchewan. At an early childhood age, Ross displayed a passion for radio broadcasting. He would string cords from the house to the barn, to mimic a radio show.
At age 16, Ross commented: “I sat on the step of CKBI in Prince Albert, Saskatchewan, until they gave me a job.” Ross furthered his broadcasting career, and accepted a position at CJVI in Victoria, BC. In the mid 1950s, Ross moved on to work at CFCW in Camrose, Alberta as a production manager and a country music radio host. In 1958, Ross was made an honorary citizen of the City of Nashville. He was recognized for being Mr. Dee Jay, USA. He had other various broadcasting positions in Calgary, Osoyoos, BC, and Edmonton, Alberta.
Ross had several interests outside of work. He had a passion for gardening, and his lawn was always lush and pristine. Ross was a loyal fan of the Edmonton Eskimos, and he always looked forward to going to the games. He also enjoyed watching the Edmonton Oilers on TV. Ross made daily entries in his diary to recap the special events of the day.
Ross leaves to mourn his passing, his loving wife, Adele, of 67 years, daughter, Shelley Olfert, nee Arthur, son, Scott (Debbie) Arthur, daughter, Kym (Russ) Holden, daughter, Janet Arthur, seven grandchildren, and nine great-grandchildren.
Ross was predeceased by his mother and father, Walter and Edith Arthur, sisters Kay Weatherby, Thelma Riach, and Joyce Powell.
The family would like to thank the staff at the Grey Nuns Hospital for the care they gave Ross during his time there.
Afterglow
I'd like the memory of me to be a happy one.
I'd like to leave an afterglow of smiles when life is done.
I'd like to leave an echo whispering softly down the ways,
Of happy times and laughing times and bright and sunny days.
I'd like the tears of those who grieve, to dry before the sun;
Of happy memories that I leave when life is done.
