Marian Doreen Grier passed away peacefully in Edmonton, Alberta on January 10, 2026 at the age of 82, surrounded by her loving family.

She was predeceased by Gertrude (Gertie - mother) and Francis (Frank - father). She is survived by Allan (husband), her three sons, Blair (Richelle), Colin (Kelly) and Keith (Joan), her grandchildren (Cooper and Hetti Coe) and sister Darlene.

Marian was deeply devoted to and found great joy in her family. She loved family gatherings and listening to the music the sons played. She enjoyed games with her grandchildren and hearing of everyone’s adventures, travels and successes around the world.

In her younger days, Marian was an accomplished figure skater and swimmer, and taught figure skating, power skating and even barrel jumping on ice skates to young athletes. She also took on the task of teaching her hockey-playing husband how to skate properly!

Marian was a talented artist and loved making and curating artistic works for her family and friends. Her passion for painting and interior decorating was always evident in her daily life and in her well-kept home. Interior design was also part of her professional life, as she owned and operated an arts, gifts and crafts store in Spruce Grove, Alberta for many years.

While she had her own professional career, Marian’s commitment to service to others was on display during the years when Allan (husband) was an active duty RCMP officer. As a result of her involvement in his work during one of Allan’s remote postings, the two of them were recognized as "Citizens of the Year" with a great part of the award due to her very active community work. Subsequently Marian received recognition from the RCMP for her dedication and contributions to police detachment duties. She was formally recognized with a “Second Man” certificate and badge for her long-term service, presented to her by their neighbours' son, who at the time was a senior RCMP member in Edmonton.

Marian’s wry sense of humour and her ability to both make and take a good joke was enjoyed and shared by family and friends alike. But it was her charitable kindness that always shone through in her daily life and all of her relationships. Marian’s deep love of and devotion to her family was an inspiration to us all. She will be deeply missed and forever loved by all of us.

  1. Rick and I were so sorry to hear of Marian’s passing. Marian and I spent many happy hours together, painting and having a good laugh. I’m lucky enough to have a piece of her artwork and it makes me smile every time I look at it.

    • Thanks for the kind words she fully deserved Gloria. She was so loved and will be so missed by her whole family and many friends and acquaintances, and especially and forever by her 3 loving sons, and her loving husband of 62+ years who knew and loved her for almost 65 years.

  2. Dear Al: We are so very sorry upon learning of the passing of your dear wife Marion. I just found her obituary amongst some messages that went to my old email address. Unfortunately, we have been unable to travel and visit you folks for the past six years due to Laura’s dementia that has pretty well taken over our lives. Marion was a wonderful caring and dignified lady who will be sadly missed by all who knew and loved her. With love and caring. Fred & Laura
