Carol Elaine Scherban (Repka)
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the peaceful passing of our beautiful Mother, Carol Scherban. We are grateful that she was in the comforts of home and surrounded by her immediate family and a few close friends.
Carol was such a bright light in the lives of so many people. She felt deeply for others and gave generously of her time and love, always ready to listen, comfort and uplift. Her enthusiasm for life was infectious. She approached each day with energy and purpose. Her laughter and humor turned ordinary moments into cherished memories.
She had an extra spark in her joy that made everyone around her feel lighter. Above all, Carol was endlessly inspiring - With integrity, grace and a genuine “Zest for Life” she showed through her actions that love, strength and kindness are the most beautiful legacies that a person can leave. She will be profoundly missed by everyone fortunate enough to have known her.
Carol will be lovingly remembered by her children Karyn and Brian Scherban, brother Terry Repka, daughter in law Peggy Seto, grandchildren Emilia and Makai, a large extended family and a legion of friends.
We look forward to sharing with you, Carol’s “Celebration of Life” come Spring. Details of the event will be forthcoming.
The family would like to express their gratitude to the Home Care and Palliative Care Teams and the Physicians and Nurses of the Cross Cancer Institute for their kindness and compassion. Their very important work does not go unnoticed.
In lieu of flowers, Carol’s wish was that donations kindly be made to the Mental Health Foundation of Edmonton.

💙💛 Auntie Carol, you will always be remembered for your beautiful smile, infectious laugh, hospitality & warm stories. Growing up, there were many cherished memories, particularly at Christmas time, whether at your home or ours. You lived a vibrant, active life, and that is to be celebrated. Dance free … forever more. 🕊
Very well said! She certainly was a light in our life. Sincere condolences to you, (Karyn, Brian & family). May each of you be blessed with love, care, and support throughout this time of grief.
Love,
Auntie Yvonne and Vance
Your Mom is/was a light in the darkness. I am so very sorry for your loss. I, like everyone else, am honored to consider her a loved friend. Karyn and Brian, you will get through this and have so many people who care and/or are praying for you. Baba was a gem.
Sincerely,
Graeme
Carol was my friend and my Caregiver. My favorite memory of her was playing Skip-Bo and Srabble and changing my Carol-Abby doll in different outfits. She was a very nice lady to me.
🕯🕊✨️ Karyn, Brian, Terry and family sending you heartfelt condolences of love and light at this difficult time. 💖
My life was blessed and enriched by first meeting Carol in 2022. She became my mentor, companion coworker, and friend.

Carol was introduced to us through our mutual lawyer. We had taken on the daunting task of caring for our cousin Keli, who was developmentally disabled and very sheltered. I had expressed to the lawyer that we would start with trying to find a caregiver and Carol entered the picture. I can’t tell you how lucky and relieved we were to find someone with as much caring and integrity as your mom. She helped Keli emerge from her shell and brought so much joy and companionship to her life. We know that Keli would not be who she is today without the help of your mom. Keli, Glen and I will miss her a great deal. We’re very fortunate, however, to have met Karyn because of Carol, and Carol’s legacy of caring will continue through her daughter as Karyn continues to spend time with Keli. How truly fortunate we were for our lawyer’s recommendation.
Terry, Karyn, Brian & Family: Condolences in Carol’s passing. As my somewhat “older” cousin, I’ve always thought of her as being a very elegant, classy & kind person. May you keep those precious memories close to the heart.
I was lucky to meet Carol in the Senior Shumka classes 2018-2020. I was impressed to find that she was in the original Shumka dance troupe. Our friendship deepened upon learning she lived in early childhood in Vilna, where I was from. Her relatives were my family friends! We shared many laughs and lengthy talks over coffee. She was introspective and a great listener. She was quick witted, intelligent and compassionate. Her positive perspective, sense of humour, uplifting personality shall remain treasured memories.
Our dearest Auntie Carol will be missed in so many ways. Carol was our connector. She kept up with all of us – sharing photos of her beloved family, and also sharing photos of everything she was up to! Carol truly lived each day! She also reminded us of loved ones who have passed. Not a birthday or anniversary went by by without Carol reaching out. Her love was always close to our hearts and will remain so. Oh how we will miss her.

Auntie Carol was one of my favourite relatives: warm, immensely caring and a beam of positivity. She is such a big part of my early family memories (as are you, Karyn and Brian), and I can’t believe she is gone! Sending so
much love. ❤️
Carol was a loving close friend for many years. Her son Brian and my son have a close bond beginning at an early age and continuing to present. The family are in my thoughts and prayers.

I worked my first job with Carols mom. Our paths crossed later in life as we both worked in medical field. She was a beautiful lady in and out. Always friendly and smiling. Rest easy Carol.
I’m so deeply sorry. Your mom was a force of nature and such a beautiful light. Cancer may have taken her body, but it could never touch the impact she had on all of us.
Having the opportunity to spend all this time with her was truly a gift from God. He brought you back to be right there with her when it mattered most. While she may not be here physically anymore, I know you will feel her presence everywhere—she is your angel now. I love you so much, and I’m here for you in every way possible.
You guys said it all . Auntie was always super warm and positive and classy,….always full of joy and laughter with a big heart, and there for you anytime.
Karyn and Brian – know that your Mom loved you so much – when we visited she talked about both of you – I will miss my dear sweet cousin and our get-togethers. Carol was an amazing woman and she will always be with you – may your memories comfort you.

Carol was a special friend and a beautiful soul. Monthly, four of us got together and shared meals, special occasions, and our lives with each other. They were evenings of fun, laughter and a deep sense of connection. These evenings were simple, but meant so much.
Carol had a beautiful way about her – thoughtful, warm, quietly wise and always stylish! She brought lightness and joy to our table and made each of us feel special.
Time passes quickly but the memories we made together feel lasting and dear. I am truly grateful for her friendship and all the moments we shared. She will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered.
Carol was a special part of my life. For years we gathered once a month with an our little group to share meals, playing cards and games and catching up on everything and nothing at all. Those evenings were never just about the food and cards they were about friendship, laughter and feeling connected. Carol brought warmth, wit and kindness to every gathering. I will always remember her smile across the table. The years went by quickly, but the memories feel close and precious. I am grateful for the time we shared. Carol will be deeply missed .
I had the pleasure of working with Carol at the Meadowlark Medical Centre. My deepest condolences to the family.
Karyn and Bryan
So sorry for your loss. Carol was a beautiful lady, inside and out.
I first met her in Sept 1968 working at the Weinlos Clinic.
She will be missed.
Karyn ,Brian ,Terry and family we are sending our heartfelt condolence of love and hugs at this most difficult time. I first met Carol in 1974 at the Weinlos Clinic and we became instant friends! Bob and I enjoyed curling and ski trips with Carol and friends. There were a few hilarious house parties . Carol was always genuine, kind, quick witted, compassionate, a true beautiful force of nature!!She always greeted you with a genuine dazzling smile that lit up her face. Although we moved to Wainwright in 1979, our friendship never wavered, and we enjoyed countless visits with her. We both were blessed to have her in our lives. Carol talked lovingly about you Karyn, and Brian. Karyn when you brought your dog, Denzel he became an instant companion to your mom! We thoroughly enjoyed our last visit October 15, meeting you Karyn, and Denzel. Cancer took her physical body, but her spirit is with you. Brian, and Terry. Our prayers are with all of you.
