Michael (Mickey) John Mitchell

It is with deep sadness that the family of Michael (Mickey) Mitchell announce his passing on Thursday, May 28, 2026, at the age of 87 years.

Mickey leaves to mourn his loving wife, Sheila and family: Brent (Valerie), Brenda (Murray), and Scott; grandchildren Sarah, Erin, Paul (Leah), Kelsey, Colin (Katelyn) and Steven (Abbie); great-grandchildren Riddick, Juni and Zoey; sister Sandy and family; along with numerous other extended family and friends.

Mickey was predeceased by his father and mother, John and Edna Mitchell; brother-in-law Ray Jones; along with many aunts, uncles and cousins.

Mickey was born in Vernon, BC, and raised in Regina. He finished a Mechanical Engineering degree at the University of Manitoba (where he met a lovely blonde nursing student who he was married to for over 64 years.). Mickey’s engineering career included work in Burlington, Ont.: Esterhazy, SK; Edmonton, Fort McMurray and across the Prairie provinces. He also co-owned a small engineering consulting business in Fort Saskatchewan and Edmonton.

He enjoyed his career but his main love was family. He also had a great love for dogs especially his little Westies that included Robbie, Bobby and Daisy. Mickey was an avid golfer, and loved doing woodwork in his shop creating beautiful cutting boards and hope chests for his family. He also got great joy in camping with Sheila and their many trips took them all over North America but Jasper, AB was their favourite.

Per Mickey’s wishes, there will be no funeral and a private celebration of life will be held at a future date.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the “Alzheimer’s Society of Alberta and Northwest Territories” or a charity of one’s choice.
