Fern met Allan Fleming in Provost when he was on leave from the war. They were married in Edmonton on November 18, 1946, and lived on the Fleming farm north of Provost until December of 1960 when they moved to Wainwright, Alberta. Following Allan’s passing in October of 2005 Fern moved to Sherwood Park to be closer to her family.
Fern’s interests included listening to music, preferably classical, playing the piano, knitting, sewing, needlepointing, curling, reading, playing bridge and cribbage and spending time at the cabin. She and Allan were regular vacationers to Maui with friends and family. She was also an active member of the UCW.
Our family is forever grateful to the care she received at St. Albert Everitt Gardens and subsequently at Extendicare Eux Claires. In the eight years that she was entrusted to these facilities we witnessed firsthand the dedication, commitment and empathic care the staff provide the residents, day in and day out. Fern was so blessed to have weekly visits from her care companion, Flora Almario. We are also thankful to the professional staffs of Trinity Funeral Home, Edmonton, and Gregory’s Funeral Home, Provost, Alberta for their compassion and guidance.
A family graveside service will be held later in July in Provost, Alberta.
Donations in Fern’s name may be made to the charity of one’s choice.--
