It is with sadness that we announce the passing of Bernard Keith Monroe.

He passed away peacefully on May 21, 2025, at the age of 87 years old, at the Fort Saskatchewan Community Hospital. Bernard, or Bernie, as he was well known to friends and family, was born in Drumheller on March 31, 1938, and lived his early life on the farm in Rosebud, Alberta, with his brother Hugh and parents Olive Louise (nee Charlebois) and Lloyd Keith Monroe. He left the farm at a young age to join the Air Force, where he met and married Emma Leblanc. They raised two sons, Daniel and Andrew, while travelling extensively throughout Canada, working a variety of occupations.

He will be dearly missed by his son Daniel (Michelle) and his brother Hugh (Sandy) and their children, Jennifer and her daughters Casey and Kellie(Dexter), Keith (Sandy), and Brian (David), as well as daughter-in-law Peggy and his grandchildren Jesse and Nicholas and great-grandchildren Mira and Mya. Later in life, he met Paulette Overland; they shared a passion for camping and spending precious time with family and friends.

Paulette and Bernie lived an active social life and loved to travel in their motorhome around Alberta, visiting with friends in the Good Sam RV Club. Bernie always loved a good garage sale or flea market and enjoying a beautiful day on the golf course.

He ended his career working as a driver for Alberta Asphalt, which he remembered with fondness.

He was predeceased by his partner Paulette in 2022 and by his son Andrew in 2023.

The family would like to sincerely recognize the wonderful care Bernie received at the Fort Saskatchewan Community Hospital in his final days.

No formal funeral will be held, and we welcome friends and family to remember Bernard in their own special way.

  2. I send my sincere condolences in this time of grief. The Bible promises that your loved one will soon live again on a beautiful paradise earth when death will be no more in John 5:28, 29.
