Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and do not lean on your own understanding.  In all your ways acknowledge Him and He shall direct your paths.  Proverbs 3:5-6

Once upon a time in a land far away our beautiful Cicely was born.  She was born to Corrie and Florence Marais, May 12, 1944 in Bulawayo, Southern Rhodesia (Zimbabwe). Through their wonderful nurturing, Cicely grew to be a gracious beautiful woman who feared and served God.  In May 1963, Cicely married Peter Campbell and became his wife for 55 wonderful years.

Cicely and Peter have three children, Gail and Alan Johnston with grandchildren Joshua, Matthew and Rebecca; Andrew and Beth Campbell with grandchildren Karsen and Kayl; Joy and Barry Flaro with grandchildren Andrew and Kayla and great-grandchildren, Landon and Kai. Around the world, Cicely has many friends and family including her siblings: Barbara and Tom Baylis, Eleanor Nel, Bas and Jenny Marais, and last but not least Malcolm and Arlene Marais! We must make special mention of her best friend for life – Joy Mol whom she loved!

Cicely has a precious welcoming committee in Heaven, first of all her loving Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ, then her parents, Daniel Johnston (grandchild) and Brian Nel (brother in law).

During her time with us, Mom showed grace and mercy to everyone, whether you were a senior she cared for as a nurse’s aide, a client wanting a particular picture in their family year book as a graphic artist, or one of the ladies she shared with in Bible study.  She had many leading lady roles from Oklahoma to Sound of Music, but her main leading role was as Dad’s companion, chief encourager, and champion!

We thank the Lord for the time we had with her and the blessing she was!  We thank the Lord for the shining light she was because of her faith in Christ. May His light continue to shine to the glory of God the Father from whom all blessings flow!

  1. Dear Gail, Alan, Josh, Matt and Rebecca,

We thank the Lord with you that your precious Mom/Grandmother is walking in our Savior’s presence! May your memories of her always bring you joy and may the Lord hold you up as you grieve.

    Many blessings and condolences,
    Anita and Derrick

  2. Gail, Alan and family, Our hearts are full and overflowing with thanksgiving for the joy of having had Cicely in our lives. Our sister in Christ now walks the streets of gold because of her faith in our living, forgiving and loving Lord. May you be blessed in the days leading up to Mom’s Memorial Service and in the days to follow.

  3. Cicely was a wonderful woman with a heart filled with love for all. Many years ago I came to her with a Christmas idea for my husband…a collage of pictures. I brought many many pictures to Cicely and asked her what she could do. Needless to say the end result was spectacular and the collage (36 X 27) hangs in our office and is admired by all. When I look at it I think of Cicely. Heartfelt sympathies to Peter and family. I know there was a celebration when Cicely arrived home.
