Vernon (Vern) Edward Alton
With love and sadness, the family of Vernon (Vern) Edward Alton share of his sudden passing after a short illness, on June 8, 2025. Born in Edmonton, to parents Gladys and Earl Alton, Vern spent the entirety of his life in the region and passed at home on his beloved acreage in Strathcona County, age 80.
Survived and ever loved by his partner Gloria; his sons Ron and Dan (Tammy), grandson Tyler; also Corinne (Richard), Sydney, Bayleigh; Candice (Matt), Logan and Parker; nephew Dean. Predeceased by his wife Sandra and sister Carol.
Friend to many, Vern was ever committed to and connected with his extended and chosen family. A proud crane operator by trade, he was a loyal member of Operating Engineers Local 955 for nearly 60 years. He had great grit and was fiercely independent. Anything he put his mind to he just did. He always had a project or two on the go. A great outdoorsman, and a fantastic shot. Generous. Determined. Direct. A lover of cowboy hats, storytelling, rodeo, country music, guitars, and The Edmonton Oilers.
Vern's Farewell Party will take place on Saturday, July 19th from 1:00PM - 3:00PM at Smilie's Village Restaurant, located at 981 Fir Street, Sherwood Park, Alberta. Family may be contacted through Local 955.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Vern's memory to the Stollery Children's Hospital at stollerykids.com/donate.
