Farley Donald Smith
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Farley Donald Smith who left this world September 13, 2025. He is survived by his loving wife of 44 years Cheryl Smith, his children, grandchildren, nieces, nephews, brothers, sisters and extended family.
Farley was born March 28, 1956 in Calgary, AB to parents Louise Emery and Donald Smith. When he was young they moved from Calgary to Edmonton where he spent his formative years. In his youth he loved spending time in Vegreville at his grandparents farm, where he helped with the work.
In 1977, he joined Local 488 - pipefitters union in where he was a member for 48 years. He was a long standing member of the Legion, 52 years.
He moved to Devon, AB in his twenties and resided there for the remainder of his life. During this time he worked across Canada and the USA in the oil and gas sector. Farley was an avid outdoorsman whose passions included motorcycles any way he could have them (ice, snow, sidecar, open road), camping, fishing, horseback riding and getting up to mischief with his grandchildren amongst other things. Spending much of his time in recent years enjoying the sun and going on adventures at Lesser Slave Lake and Cabo San Lucas with his wife and family.
He will be remembered for his dry sense of humour, the love of his family, bright smile, guiding wisdom/ advice and unmistakable voice. One of his favourite sayings was “don’t look at it, get at it”.
For those who met Farley they will be hard pressed to forget him as he left a lasting impression everywhere he went.
