Fernando Alvaro Cerda
Fernando Alvaro Cerda (1948 – 2026) passed away on March 4, 2026 in Edmonton, Alberta, surrounded by his children.
Born May 11, 1948, in Santiago, Chile to Rudélinda del Carmen Suarez, lovingly known as Grandma Rulà, Fernando spent the first 29 years of his life in the country he called home. During that time, he served as a police officer. In 1977, he immigrated to Canada, where he built a new life and worked as a labourer for many years.
Fernando will be remembered for his quick wit, his love of conversation, and his playful humor. He had a tough exterior and a famously stubborn streak, often delivered with humor and a sharp sense of satire, traits that those who knew him will remember. He was someone who spoke his mind, often with a running commentary on the world around him, and brought a distinct presence to any room he was in.
He is remembered by his five children: Carolina (Julio), Cathy (Justin), Tanya, Patricia, and Nathaniel, and by his grandchildren, Isabella, Ryder, and Lilly.
Fernando lived a life shaped by resilience, independence, and strong opinions. He will be remembered in the stories, memories, and moments shared by those who knew him.
