It is with much sadness that we announce the passing of Phillip John Joseph Ciz on Sunday, February 22, 2026 at the age of 71. Phillip was born on May 31,1954 in Edmonton, Alberta where he lived until he passed.

Phil graduated from St. Francis Xavier High School in 1972. Phil attended the University of Alberta, where he received his BCom in 1977. Phil was a lifelong member of the Alberta Chapter of Delta Upsilon International Fraternity.

Phil had a love for life. He loved to laugh and make people laugh. His infectious laughter would fill a room. Phil’s kindness, humor and lighthearted nature brought joy to everyone who knew him.  Phil loved to golf, play cards, travel and sit on an ocean beach sipping a good tequila.

Phil is lovingly remembered by wife Janice, stepdaughter Ashley, sister Elaine, brother-in-law Ray, nieces Katie, Natasha, Nicole, nephew Matthew and a plethora of friends.  Phil valued his family and friends and held them close to his heart.

Phillip will be deeply missed but never forgotten. May his soul rest in peace and his spirit continue to guide and inspire us all.

  1. Jan, I’m so sorry for your loss. Phil was such a nice gentleman and as you say always laughing or telling a joke. He will surely be missed and remembered. I will definitely miss his big hugs.

  2. Really sad to hear about Phil. The man was a good friend to me, always cheered me up to see him.
He was a real gentleman, with positive things to say, that often left us laughing helplessly.
RIP buddy. You will be missed.

  3. Phil was a close friend of my older brother while growing up together. But I got to tag along and enjoy the special company of Phil. My memories and smiles Phil brought to me and all of us, were numerous. I wish I could attend the service but I’m out of town. You are missed Phil , but never forgotten.

  4. RIP brother.

  5. Jan and Family, I will never forget the fun, kindness, and happiness that followed Phil while we hunted ducks (zero success), partied (lots of success) and hung out. I think everyone knows that my Father loved Phil and “we” could get the car anytime we wanted as long as it was Phil who asked. I live out of the Country and unable to attend today in person but my heart is with all of you.
    Love Tony

  6. My condolences Jan, to you, your family, and Phil’s family and many friends. Phil was always the biggest personality in the room, wherever that room was. From our high school years at St. F-X, later when Phil visited in Vancouver after I moved there and finally for many years on work trips to Edmonton, Phil was the anchor to my and many others’ childhoods, adult lives and finally retirements. A man with hundreds of friends, Phil welcomed you into his life with warmth, endless enthusiasm and energy and kindness. He will be sorely missed.
