George Burgess
It is with great sadness that the family of George Burgess announces his passing at the Leduc Hospital, December 7, 2025, at the age of 90 years and 9 months.
George was born at home on the family farm in the Wizard Lake area on March 7, 1935. He grew up working the farm, building lifelong values of hard work, resilience, and devotion to family. He attended Vermillion School of Agriculture at the age of 16, which was one of the most memorable periods of his young life.
A water well driller by trade and a dedicated farmer by heart. George spent his life providing for his family, meeting every challenge with determination. Even as he faced vision impairment throughout his life and more so in his later years, he continued to live with an unwavering spirit. George loved to travel and found joy in adventures to the Hawaiian Islands, other destinations and winters at the Fountain of Youth.
George will be lovingly remembered by his children Peter (Cori) Foged, Donna (Kelly Jahner), William (Kristen) Burgess, grandchildren Savannah, Sierra (Brett Hague), Marissa, Jayden, Chase and Liam, sister Hilda Karbonik, sister-in-law Ella Ashcraft, brothers-in-law Mike Cholach, Bill and Harry Foged, as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his loving wife of 36 years Alma (Foged), his father Bill (William) Burgess, mother Eva (Bell), sister Eileen Cholach, father-in-law George Foged, brothers-in-law Mike Karbonik and Gary Ashcraft.
In his later years he married Donna (Donelda Furber) and they shared many loving years together in Leduc, surrounded by their families and friends.
He lived out the remainder of his days in the Leduc Extendicare, regaling the staff and visitors with memories of his life.
A celebration of George’s life will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Conjuring Creek Community Cemetery Fund, RR #4, Calmar, Alberta, T0C 0V0.
The family extends heartfelt thanks to all who supported and cared for George throughout his years. His story telling, strength, kindness, warm heart and example of steady perseverance will be forever remembered.
