With great sadness, we announce the passing of Jose Moniz Cabral of Edmonton, Alberta, on June 30, 2026, at the age of 94.

Born in São Miguel, Azores, Jose immigrated to Canada in 1957 in search of new opportunities and a better future for his family. He made Edmonton his home and dedicated more than 40 years of service to Canadian National Railway before enjoying a well-earned retirement.

Jose is lovingly remembered by his two children, Joe Cabral and Edoarda (Roger) Viveiros; his three grandchildren, Sabrina, Steven, and Danny (Shayla); his three great-grandchildren, Ava, Jada, and Kaia; his brothers, Americo Moniz, Manuel Moniz, and Angelo Da Costa; as well as many nieces, nephews, extended family members, and dear friends.

He was predeceased by his beloved wife of 63 years, Maria Pereira Cabral; his parents, Jose and Maria; and all of his siblings except his three surviving brothers.

Jose will be remembered for his hard work, unwavering devotion to his family, and the quiet strength and kindness he carried throughout his life. His memory will live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved him.
