Marilyn Cheryl Romanyk (nee Jones)
It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Marilyn Cheryl Romanyk, who was battling cancer, left us peacefully at the age of 76 on Friday, October 3rd, 2025. Marilyn was born, January 9th, 1949, in Elk Point, Alberta and grew up in Red Deer, Alberta. She married on April Fools Day 1972, and resided mostly in Edmonton, Alberta. Most of her career was working as a Program Consultant for the Occupational Health Nursing and Post-Basic Nursing Practice at Grant MacEwan University. She thouroughly loved her work assisting students. Marilyn retired in 2017, giving her more time for travel.
Left behind is her husband Dennis of 53 years, children Tyler (Nicole), Jennine (Mateusz); grandchildren Katrina, Alexander, and Brynley; and sister Donna Kafara (Harvey). She is lovingly remembered by her family and friends and is predeceased by her parents, Evan and Doloras Jones; sister Darlene Jones; brother Donald Jones; and brother-in-law Larry Kafara.
A private service for Marilyn will be held with immediate family. A future celebration of her life is being planned and details will be shared with family and friends in the coming days.
In lieu of flowers, those wishing to honor Marilyn’s memory are encouraged to consider a donation to the Canadian Wildlife Federation.
Marilyn will be forever cherished in the hearts of those who knew her, and will be greatly missed but never forgotten. May she rest in peace.

We are so sorry for your loss. What a wonderful woman left us far too soon! You remain in our thoughts and prayers.
Dennis, and family, I share your sadness. Marilyn was such a joy to be around and I am ‘so’ happy that Paul/Bryn and I bumped in to the ladies at Starbucks that one afternoon a few years back and that you guys were able to join us on the Croatia trip. It will be etched in my mind forever especially the ‘pirate’ invasion on board. Major hugs. She indeed was a gem.
I was deeply sadden to hear of Marilyn’s passing. It was on a lovely cruise along the Croatian coast that I first got to know her and Dennis. Later, we would meet, along with two other fellow travellers, for coffee once a month to share happy and not so happy news. Marilyn was a lovely lady and she will be missed by all. I hope she found her peace and comfort.
Dennis, to you and all of your family, my most sincere condolences.
As an accidental, unofficial member of the ladies Starbucks ‘coffee club’, I always enjoyed running into Marilyn and getting her full critique AND compliments on anything I did on CHED radio. She also did it with a wry smile and giggle. I loved it… and made notes. She will be missed by so many but thankfully we all have remarkable memories of her life, mixed with lots of laughs and great stories.
Big hugs from me and our whole family.
