Nyabiey Tear Chamjock
With profound sadness and heavy hearts, we announce the passing of our beloved Nyabiey Tear Chamjock on June 21st, 2025. She was an amazing mother, grandmother, sister and friend. Despite her 2 year long battle with breast cancer, by God’s grace Nyabiey passed away peacefully in her sleep.
Nyabiey was born and raised in Nasir, South Sudan. Daughter of Tear Chamjock and Nyaboth Deng (stepdaughter of Nyawal Chuol) and was the oldest of her siblings. Nyabiey was a loving woman who overcame many challenges in life. From losing her mother at a young age, and suffering a serious spinal injury as a teen, she also survived a rattlesnake bite which led to permanent nerve damage in her leg. Despite such unfortunate events Nyabiey was exceptionally God-fearing, patient, brave, and never let her injuries hold her back. As the first born Nyabiey dedicated her entire life to supporting her siblings and extended family abroad, as she immigrated from Ethiopia to Canada with her husband James Wal Gatluak in 1989. Nyabiey was a hard worker, the true embodiment of strength & was admired by many, for her wisdom, generosity, humor, beauty and kindness. Nyabiey carefully raised her children with a strong work ethic and instilled the value of education. She was often a voice of reason, thoughtful, steady and sincere. Naturally people sought her out for guidance and advice. Despite her ongoing battle with chronic back pain and breast cancer Nyabiey always wore a smile. Highly regarded in the Nuer community, Nyabiey was known for selflessly lending a helping hand, and opening her doors to others in need. Nyabiey loved music, animals, Gold and storytelling. Her absence will be felt deeply by all who knew and loved her.
She will be lovingly remembered by her children: Nyawargak Gatluak, Tethloach Gatluak, Mary Gatluak, and Nyamuoch Gatluak; grandchildren: Nyagoa Gatluak, Adau Biong, Biong Biong, Safiya Kaviziya. Her sisters: Chol Chamjock, Nyamuon Chamjock, Chudier Chamjock. Her brothers: Gatdet Chamjock and Chan Chamjock; 7 nieces/nephews, and many other family members and friends.
May her soul rest in peace.
