Wendy peacefully passed away on April 29, 2026 surrounded by sunflowers and family. Two things she loved the most. Wendy departed with dignity and with so much love.

Wendy was born in Olds on April 05, 1950 to Myrtle and Alfred Smith. Wendy’s father passed when she was 2. The father who raised her was Ollie Tunder. Wendy grew up in Olds then moved to Calgary to begin her Registered Nurse training at the Holy Cross in Calgary. Wendy married John Oxtoby in 1971. Wendy and John then moved to Valleyview where Wendy worked as a Registered Nurse. They adopted their oldest son Stephen, then in quick succession had their son Sean, and their daughter Sharla. Wendy and family immigrated to Australia. Wendy worked for the Australian Red Cross and the Conservation Commission.

After six years Wendy, Sean, and Sharla returned to live in Olds Alberta. Wendy worked at Foothills Natural Gas Co-op. Wendy remarried in 1993 to Peter Wanlin, the love of her life. After Peter’s passing in 2019 Wendy moved to Red Deer AB. In 2023, Wendy moved to Gibbons, AB with Sharla and her family.

Wendy is predeceased by husband Peter Wanlin, her parents, son Sean, brothers Ronald Smith and Dennis Smith and sisters Sharon Lake and Doreen Dumont. Wendy wants you to lead your life with positivity and remember her through sunshine, yellow, and sunflowers.

We will try not to mourn her loss but remember Wendy’s cheerful smile and positive attitude. We are grateful to have had Wendy in our lives.

A very special thank you to the doctors and staff at Fort Saskatchewan Hospital who provided kind, compassionate, and loving care for Wendy.
