Sonny had an unfortunate and devastating accident in November 1968 leaving him wheelchair bound and paraplegic for his lifetime.
He faced many challenging and difficult times ahead and with his dedicated and loving wife by his side throughout the journey of his life, so many feats were accomplished. Between his will, determination and his wife’s faith, prayer, care, understanding, and patience, they worked together to become resilient to the words - “You won’t be able to do that, that’s too difficult, don’t think that’s possible”.
Sonny went on to play wheelchair basketball, was in the Paralympics, enjoyed fishing and big game hunting. He was an incredible cook with great culinary skills, knowledge and tasty dishes!
His garage was ultimately his first home! Pretty much daily you would find him having his drink, reading his western book, listening to the radio, fixing or building anything that people needed, gardening, making jerky & talking with anyone that would stop or go by the garage. He might have voiced his complaints to anyone who was listening too!
But his number one passion and Love was his Blue Jay Birds…
Opening the garage door around noon, putting out peanuts on his homemade box, the birds (some even had their own names from Dad) would be welcomed to fly in to take a peanut back to their safe place…. Some even came back for seconds!
As per Sonny’s (dad’s) wishes, cremation will take place. To celebrate him, please hold a glass up, think of a happy memory you remember with him and cheers!
In lieu of flowers, please donate to any charity of your choice.
Dad your pain & suffering is over… You had a hard life but made the best and most out of it. Now your journey with the good Lord has begun. RIP & we love and miss you always & forever. Xoxox
