Astrid Nicolson
With great sadness we announce the sudden passing of our beloved mom, Astrid Nicolson, on November 4, 2024. She was predeceased by our father, Bruce, in 2016 after 49 years of marriage together.
Astrid was born in Germany on September 10, 1944 and came to Winnipeg in 1951 with her parents, Oma, and 6 siblings. In 1967 she and Bruce married and started their life and family in Edmonton. Besides working stints as a secretary and care worker for seniors, her greatest joy was always taking care of her family. Their cottage that Bruce built at Lac La Biche lake was their second home during the summer. Astrid was a talented seamstress and cook and spent many hours cultivating her vegetable garden and flowers. Living for the past six years at her lovely retirement residence, she enjoyed making new friends, taking part in the activities and organizing the summer display of flowers at the building.
She leaves to mourn her children; Michael (Kelly), David (Kelly) and Alisa (Brook), and grandchildren; Jacob, Dylan, Caleb, Ariel and Paige. Sisters; Jeanette Badali (John) and Hilda Moritz. Brothers; Alfred Wischnewski (Margaret), Gerry Wisch (Carol), and Waldi Wischnewski (Rose). Sister-in-law Elli Wischnewski, 8 nephews and 2 nieces. Astrid was predeceased by parents Emma and John Wischnewski and brother Arno Wischnewski.

My deepest sympathies to the family in the loss of your mom. I will remember Astrid for many things among them her love of flowers and gardening but most of all her love and joy in her grandchildren. We shared many years as neighbours and in that time we shared many talks over the backyard fence and I am sure we could have solved all the world problems as well as many recipes. Rest in peace Astrid with your beloved Bruce.
Thank-you for the kind words Fran. You and Bill were such good friends and neighbors to Mom and Dad.
Our Sympathy to you Micheal and your siblings and family Your mom was always such a friendly lady met her at Avonmore School when Dwayne met you and was in class with you through those years . God Be with you all. Beautiful Astrid rest in Peace .
Nothing can be said that will take away your sadness, but know the good memories will last forever…from the cabin, to the Tabby jerk of a cat, to you Mom always having a smile (or even a “ok I will tolerate you”) look on her face when the lawn was covered with kids bikes in the summer time!
My condolences Mike, David, Lisa and your entire family!!
Michael, David, Alisa and families.
It is so hard to put into words how sad I feel for all of you on the passing of your Mom. She devoted her life to all of you and your Dad. I watched it happen for fifty years. She was a dear and true friend to me and I will miss her tremendously. The only positive thing I can think of with her passing is that she is now with your Dad, who she missed dearly. We send our deepest sympathies to you all on your loss.
Michael, David, Alisa and your families: My sincere sympathies in the loss of your mom and Grandma.
Astrid and Bruce were very sincere friends of mine from the time I first met Bruce at work in 1967.
Astrid always had that beaming smile about her. She was a terrific cook and always had a great meal prepared, not to mention desserts and snacks.
Astrid was just an overall wonderful lady and friend. She now rests in peace with Bruce.
We were so sad to hear of your Mom’s passing, we have many happy memories of both your parents such great neighbours could always be counted on to help anytime
Please accept our sincere condolences sending lots of love and prayers
My deepest condolences to the whole family may she rest in peace.🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻
I send condolences to Astrid’s family at this time. I was surprised and
shocked to hear of Astrid’s passing. Astrid and I worked together in the
secretarial world and kept in touch with each other along with a mutual
friend who also worked there. We would share about the “good old
working days” and the people we knew there. When Astrid moved to her
senior’s home, we would text each other and share how we were doing.
Years ago when we were just starting out with married life, Astrid planted
a garden at our new house we purchased. As others have noticed, she
did like flowers and her garden.
I will miss her laugh and how she always welcomed our visits through phone
calls and texts. May I meet her again in her heavenly home that God has
prepared for her. My sympathies again.
With loving thoughts, Shirley Shirvell
