Brian Edwin Wilkie of Edmonton, Alberta, was born on April 27, 1947, in Mississauga Ontario. He was born to Audrey and Edwin Wilkie. Brian passed away on Thursday August 10, 2023 due to a long battle with a chronic medical condition. Brian was a gentle and kind husband to his devoted wife (Judy) of 47 years. He is survived by Judy, his daughter (Kenna), son (David), sister (Starr), brother (Glen) and numerous nieces and nephews. One of Brian’s biggest accomplishments was being a father. He had always wanted children and considered himself lucky enough to have two.

Brian completed a science degree at The University of Waterloo before travelling Europe with his close friend Al McClintoch. Upon returning to Canada to complete his graduate degree in Natural Resource Management at the University of Manitoba. This is where Brian and Judy’s loving relationship began. As a lifelong learner, Brian also later completed certification as a financial planner and fundraising executive.

Brian began his career in the 1970’s working for Parks Canada helping to establish national parks at The Fork, Qu’Appelle Valley and Waskesiu. After leaving Parks Canada he joined Ducks Unlimited raising money for wetland conservation in western Canada. During this time Brian, Judy and their eldest child Kenna moved to Edmonton. After a long career with Ducks Unlimited, Brian worked as a fundraiser for Winnifred Stewart, Chrysalis and the AIDS Network of Edmonton. He next moved onto completing his certification for financial planning and began working for Foresters. Throughout his career he had a passion for volunteering to try to help improve the lives of others. He was an active member of Crimestoppers, Toastmasters and the Epilepsy Society of Edmonton. He made many lifelong friends and connections as a long-time member within the Mayfield Rotary Club.

Brian’s various hobbies included cooking, baking bread, playing the piano, listening to music, golfing, hiking, gardening and was an avid reading. He loved socializing, entertaining and meeting new people. He was always up for adventures especially when they included travel.

Brian’s passion for conservation and love for the environment will be honoured through a private green burial.

You are invited to join Brian’s family in a celebration of his life at the Woodvale Facility and Clubhouse located in MillWoods Golf Course (4540 50Street NW, Edmonton) on Thursday August 17th from 1pm-4pm.
