It is with broken hearts and loving memories that we announce the passing of our mother Catherine (Katina) Kay Tsiandos on September 27, 2023 at the age of 83 in Edmonton, Alberta. Kay was born in Athens, Greece on September 12, 1940.  She will be forever loved and missed by her children Lambros, Evyenia Jenny and son-in-law Bernie, sister-in-law Georgina, granddaughters Christina, Marissa (Dan) and Katina, as well as her two great grandchildren, numerous nieces, nephews and extended family.  She was predeceased by her parents Lampros and Vasiliki, husband Theodore and brother George.

Kay had a distinguished career working as a Canadian Customs Inspector for the Federal Government.  For nearly all of her adult life, she generously donated her time volunteering for the Greek Orthodox Church and Community of Edmonton and has been a staple in the Greek community since she first arrived in Canada.  Kay was also a proud member of several other organizations in the community such as The Greek Orthodox Ladies Philoptochos Society, The Golden Age Society, The Ladies of Hestia and Second Wind Dreams, to name a few.  Kay’s faith in the Greek Orthodox religion was unwavering and was of great comfort to her in her final days.

The prayer service will be held on Monday October 2, 2023 6:00 p.m. at Trinity Funeral Home 10530-116 St. Edmonton, AB.  The funeral service will be held Tuesday October 3, 2023 at 10:00 a.m. at St. George’s Greek Orthodox Church 10831-124 St. NW Edmonton, AB with the internment to immediately follow the funeral service at Westlawn Cemetery.

If you wish, donations can be made to St. George’s Greek Orthodox Church and Community of Edmonton in lieu of flowers.

  1. We are very sorry to hear about Katina’s passing. She was more than a good neighbour, friend, helper, and councillor. She was a wonderful wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother and an auntie to everyone. A remarkable person who showed us a bit of what God’s love and generosity is like. People were drawn to her, by her magnetic personality, wisdom and keen sense of humour. She will truly be missed by all who knew her. May her legacy live on through her family forever.

  2. To Tsiandos family,
I am expressing my deepest sympathy for your loss of your mother, grand mother and great grandmother. Her memory will live on us through the love and wisdom and her great smile passed on to you. May you find strength in her memory.
On behalf of the board of Directors of the Hellenic Golden Age Association of Alberta and my family, Dimitris Garanis

  3. Our sincerest condolences to the Tsiandos family for the passing of Katina. We knew her well from Saint George’s Greek Orthodox Church and she was a wonderful person. May God give her rest and peace.
