It is with great sadness, that we announce Dusan (Andy) Hull, 72, of Edmonton Alberta, passed away on Dec 30th, 2023, with his beloved wife by his side.  His battle with terminal health issues in recent years demonstrated his strength and courage in facing life challenges.  Despite the pain, Andy stayed strong until the end, remaining with the family as long as he was able.

Andy was born on Feb 12th, 1951 in Brejic, Slovenia, immigrating to Edson, Alberta at the age of 10.  Andy’s parents relocated often in those early years in Alberta, thus Andy attended school in Edson, Hinton, Ardmore, Glendon, Radway and Thorhild, developing lifelong friends and memories.

Andy married his wife Spasajenia in 1973 in Jasper Alberta, and they shared their life together for 50 years.  They raised two sons, Dan and John, exemplifying core family values, and providing as many opportunities as possible for their sons.  Andy gave generously to family and friends, whether it was advice, a helping hand, whatever was needed, he was always available to support those he loved.

Andy started his working career with Canadian National Railway successfully surpassing 35 years of service, relocating every few years within Alberta and BC, as he bid and accepted promotions throughout his career. Considering his exceptional knowledge of the track, Andy managed “extra gangs” throughout his work career as well.  After retiring from CNR, he was asked to work for  On-Track as a special contractor, once again routinely travelling across the provinces.  Andy believed in hard work and the privileges it provided.

And needless to say, remained friends with colleagues to current day, often reminiscing about days gone by.

In his spare time Andy enjoyed working around the home, watching sports, especially games when his family participated.  As well, Andy was a car enthusiast.  Proudly owning a 1964 Pontiac Convertible as his first car, to being one of the first owners of the “automatic vehicle” with power windows, dashboard, etc., Andy found delight in well- engineered vehicles.

When Andy finally retired, he continued travelling, however, this time leisurely across Canada and abroad.  He enjoyed his time at home, working around the house, and spending time with grandchildren, Carter, Talia, Tenley,  whom he loved dearly.

Proudly, he attended all special events for his children and grandchildren sharing in their accomplishments, successes and good times.

Andy cherished his family, his friends and the pleasures of life bestowed upon him.

We will all miss Andy’s companionship, his compassion, guidance, and the hugs, and for this, he will live forever in our hearts.

Andy is predeceased by his parents, Frank and Stephanie Hull.

He is survived by his loving wife, Spasajenia; children, Dan (Spenser), John (Alana); grandchildren Carter, Talia, Tenley; siblings Frank (Lorraine) Hull, Frances (Dave) Olinkin; nieces and nephews and many relatives in Europe.

The family would like to send a heartfelt thank you to the Doctors and nurses at the Kaye Clinic at the University of Alberta Hospital, the Grey Nuns Hospital, the Royal Alexander Hospital, for their care and compassion.

A Celebration of Life will be held in March with details to follow at a later date.  In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to be made to Cancer Research. Donate Here
