It is with profound sadness, that the family of Gail Lorraine Swanson (Mills) announce her passing on August 22, 2022 at the age of 73 years following a lengthy battle with cancer.

Gail will be lovingly remembered by Larry, her husband of 51 years, son Alan, daughter Karen (Ryan) Long and her beloved grandson Bennett. Also left to mourn her passing are her sister Linda (Hilton) Hadley, brother Don Mills, sister-in-law Deborah (Lee) Webber, brothers-in-law Randy (Val) Swanson and Lyle (Brenda) Swanson as well as numerous nieces, nephews and a host of friends.

Gail is predeceased by her parents Rita and Ernie Mills and parents-in-law Jessie and Elmer Swanson.

Gail was born in Edmonton, Alberta on October 27, 1948. She began her schooling at Sherbrooke Elementary School and graduated from Ross Sheppard High School.  From there, she went on to the Royal Alexandra School of Nursing, graduating in 1969. She married Larry, the love of her life on April 24, 1971. Gail continued to work part time following the birth of her children. In 1978, the Swanson's moved to Spruce Grove where Gail began driving school bus, which she enjoyed for over 20 years. In 2001, Gail went back to her first love of nursing, which she did until her retirement. After her retirement, Gail continued to create many joyful memories with her family and friends.

Gail freely gave her time to care for others by volunteering with several organizations. Her passion and giving spirit will be missed by all who knew her.

Gail's family invites you to gather on September 4, 2022 at 2:00 pm at Heritage Park , 5100-41 Avenue, Stony Plain, to celebrate her life.

In lieu of floral tributes, donations may be made to Bladder Cancer Canada, the Pilgrim's Hospice (Edmonton) or to a charity of one's choice, in Gail's name.

  4. I am very saddened to hear that Gail has passed away. We worked together on Orthopedics at the Royal Alexandra Hospital and eventually shared an evening position after our sons were born. We become good friends, sharing work and family life stories for many years. I will miss her dearly, and extend my condolences to Larry, Alan, Karen and the rest of Gail’s family.

  13. I was so sorry to hear of Gail’s passing. I was a classmate of hers and although I never worked with her, we did catch up at our yearly alumni meetings and banquets. She had a wonderful, spontaneous personality and sense of humor that will be forever missed. May her light continue to shine in your hearts and ours. Rest in peace, Gail.
