Gary Gilsig
It is with deep sorrow that we share the news of Gary's passing at the Sturgeon Community Hospital in St. Albert after a 13 year battle with cancer. He passed peacefully surrounded by family.
Gary was born in Montreal and after meeting his first wife Cheryl, they relocated to Medicine Hat, Alberta area where they raised their two sons William and Shane. After Cheryl's passing in 2008, Gary met and married Judie Saulit in 2010 and relocated to Stony Plain for four years before moving to their current home in Parkland County. They enjoyed winters in Arizona for 14 years before declining health kept them home for the winters.
Gary is survived by his wife Judie, his sons William (Janise) and Shane, step-daughters Marnie White, Raime Drake (Shane) and five grandchildren; Maxen Gilsig, Marisa Gilsig, Erin Drake, Adam Drake and Finley White.
He is also survived by his brother Allan and sisters Janice and Audrey, brothers-in-law Robin Schlaht and Wayne Schlaht, sister-in-law Laverne Craig (John), nieces and nephews and many friends.
Gary is reunited with his father Robert Gilsig, his mother Goldie Gilsig, first wife Cheryl Gilsig and brother-in-law Jack Gray.
In keeping with Gary's wishes, cremation has taken place and there will be no funeral. A private gathering for family and close friends will take place at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, please consider donating to the Canadian Cancer Society, in Gary's name.
We'll remember him for his love of family, cooking (and eating), playing shuffleboard, flying radio-controlled aircraft, creating stained glass art, interacting with friends and neighbours and finally, for his comedic talent for storytelling.
So loved and so missed!

72 years doesn’t seem nearly long enough. Glad I got to talk to you last Friday. It tore me up to say goodbye knowing it would be our last earthly salutation. A la proclaimed fois/till we meet again.

I’m at a loss to find adequate words that describe the depth of my grief over losing my big brother, and sympathy for Judie who lost her soul mate. Condolences to Will & Shane, who lost a guiding light, and to the rest of the family as well. May we all take comfort in the knowledge that Gary is no longer in pain, and that he has been reunited with loved ones who have passed before him. Until we meet again…… I love you Gary
Living far apart, I always enjoyed when Gary would reach out and phone. Each conversation ended with “Love you,” which warmed my heart. I hope that Judie can find some comfort in knowing that she did everything she could to make him as comfortable as possible. I wish we lived closer. I wish he was still here.
