It is with heavy hearts that the family announces George’s passing on December 6, 2025, at the age of 90 years.

George was born in 1935 in a farmhouse near Little Gem, Alberta.

He is survived by his loving wife, Anne; daughters Anita and Sandra; son Wayne; stepsons Troy and Ryan; nine grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; as well as many other relatives and friends.

George began his lengthy teaching career in May 1953 at just 17 years of age. He was a dedicated educator who cared deeply for his students and colleagues, serving both as a classroom teacher and for many years in administration.

His desire to serve others was evident throughout his life—in his work as a Boy Scout leader, museum director, his leadership in a camp for children with disabilities, and through many other contributions in the community.

George also enjoyed raising cattle and was an avid gardener and sports fan. After retirement, he established a tree farm. Fishing, hunting, and travelling were among his greatest passions.

The world will miss George and his unwavering commitment to making life better for others. He will be forever loved, deeply missed, and never forgotten by his family.

  1. Sorry to hear of your loss Ann and family. It was good to see you at Uncle Bob’s 90th birthday. May the peace of God sustain you in this season of life.
    Ron and Sandra Geary

    • Thanks, Ron. I have such pleasant memories of the time we sent at your cabin on the beach in PEI.

  2. I am very sorry for your loss. I have a question did George ever teach school in Fort Sask Alta. If so I think he was my grade 6 teacher.

    • Yes, Diane, he did indeed teach in Fort Saskatchewan so most likely was your grade six teacher.

  3. I am so sorry for your loss. George was the principal at my first teaching job and I enjoyed working for him very much. He always reminded me of my own father.

  4. So sorry, Ann and family. I met George while coaching Sandra in volleyball at Sal Comp. I was looking for a move from teaching high school PE and George found a spot for me at Colchester. I am forever grateful for his help. What a caring compassionate educator he was.

  5. Condolences to all. I recently recalled cousin George teaching brother Roy and myself our first marketing skills of selling Hot Dogs in the 1960’s at Clarke Stadium making good spending money then getting the best seats to watch all of the Ed Esk’s games!

  6. Dear Anne and Family, Please accept my sincere condolences. George and I were colleagues for many years in the Strathcona County educational system.
May your many positive memories of George provide comfort to you in this time of grief and loss.

  7. Dear Anne and Family,
My sincere condolences to you and your family. I hope you will find comfort in the many memories you have of George.

  8. Thinking of you Anne,
I am so sorry for your loss. I am keeping you and your family in my thoughts and prayers. I am so glad I had an opportunity to work with George and with you. I have fond memories of George, his wheeling and dealing, his support for his staff members, and his contagious smile and laugh.

  9. Dear Anne,
I am so sorry to hear about George’s passing.
He was a favorite principal of mine, and a friend.
He created a wonderful atmosphere at his schools.
I can still hear his laughter in the hallways.
Please pass on our love and condolences to family.
    Lynnda and Jim McBride

  10. Dear Anne, I echo Lynnda’s comments about George. I have fond memories of his positive attitude daily at Woodbridge. Our trips to Nordegg are a highlight memory for me and George always treated his staff with respect and kindness. I was lucky to have him as my principal and friend.
