Gladys Helen Wilson (Yamiolkowski) passed away in Devon, Alberta at the age of 85. She was born on February 22, 1939 on the Saskatchewan prairie near Spruce Lake SK to parents Nick and Olga. She had five siblings: Jane, Alec, Bernice, Paul and Barbie.

She moved to Lloydminster and had a few short term positions before working for the AGT telephone company as a switchboard operator. This is where she met her husband Dennis. She would connect his calls and give him the time and charges when he called back. There is quite a story how they met in person and began to date. They were married in January 1959 and had 62 wonderful years together.

Gladys was a homemaker and enjoyed taking care of her family and home. She had many talents and would have been a great hairdresser as she cut and permed hair for family and friends. She was a creative person and in later years re-discovered water color art as well as oil painting and enjoyed participating in the art club in Kelowna BC where they had retired in 1994. She particularly enjoyed painting the elevators of the prairies, road trips and taking pictures which inspired beautiful artwork. She always said “who would have thought that a little girl from the prairies” could do some of the things she had. She even travelled with her husband to Nigeria on a missions trip – although she said she never would again. Home was where her heart was.

Gladys was a supporter – and this held her in good stead when they founded a church in Edmonton called Family Worship Centre.

Gladys loved the Lord, believed in the power of prayer and that a miracle was on the way.
They returned to Edmonton in 2014 to be closer to family in their later years. Gladys and her husband continued to enjoy road trips and mini adventures around the area until his passing. She would always comment on the beauty of the landscape and trees whenever out for a drive with family. She will be lovingly remembered.

To Celebrate and Remember her life a graveside service will be held on Monday May 27, 2024 at 1:00 p.m. at Rosehill Cemetery (1605-141 Street Edmonton, AB)

Gladys was preceded in death by her loving husband Dennis of 62 years who passed away 3 years ago at the age of 83; parents Olga and Nick, brothers Alec and Paul and a sister Bernice Haywood.

Gladys will be lovingly remembered by her two children; Sandra Hull (Mike Davis) and Rob (Lynette Jonson) and five grandchildren: Michelle, Lisa, Ashleigh (Cole) Seehagel, Evan and Matthew. She also leaves her great grandchildren; Bryson and Madisyn, her sister Barbie Yamiolkowski (Larry Sieben), Jane Rundberg (Harry) and extended family.

If friends so wish, memorial donations may be made to the HOPE Mission in Gladys' name.

  3. Will always remember Gladys’ beautiful smile; and a kind heart seemed to ooze from her. Wonderful time spent with her in our art chats. She always lent support and encouragement to all other artists. Sadly, she moved away from Kelowna, and was missed in our midst.
