Henry Gerard Gour
With heavy hearts we announce the passing of our beloved father, grandfather and great grandfather Henry Gour. He was welcomed home by his parents and 5 siblings on Friday, June 6th, 2025 at the age of 95.
Born on April 27th,1930 in Dollard, Saskatchewan, Henry and his family faced the challenging times that were so common for family’s living through the 1930’s. The family relocated to Alberta in 1936.
As a teenager he joined his father at work, became an apprentice carpenter and the start of his life’s work was born.
With the exception of a short time in 1957 to work in Tuktoyaktuk, NT at the Department of Public Works Campsite for the DEW line (Distant Early Warning). Henry’s career in construction took him where ever he was needed across the province.
His life’s work, spanning over 4 decades includes dozens of hospitals, schools, RCMP detachments and Provincial Government buildings. Nearly every small town and village throughout Alberta is home to one of his footprints.
In the wake of his passing, he leaves behind a loving family to reflect and celebrate his life. Florence, his wife of 71 years and their 3 children; Joanne (Percy), Paul (Diana) and Mitch (Sev). Grandchildren; Amanda, Nicole (Peter), Brandon (Bree) and Sarah. As well as great grandchildren; Brayden, Connor, Henley (Rob-father), Kayla, Abigail and baby Walter.
The family wishes to express appreciation to all of the wonderful people who have been a part of his daily life in recent years. We know he will be missed and remembered fondly.
A private family celebration will be held at a later date once he and Florence have been reunited.
We were neighbours and friends for many years from the 1960s and shared much home-made wine and beer around a backyard fire—-so sorry to see your dad go. There was much love in that group in those years—-Little money so we all just made do with what we had and everyone has turned out OK.
So sorry for your loss. Our condolences.
I AM SO VERY SORRY FOR YOUR LOSS. I WILL MISS HENERY. HE WAS SUCH A LOVELY PERSON.
I will miss Henry Gour. We, Jack and I, had some really good times and lots of fun with Florence and Henry, the best neighbors. My condolences to the family -Jo, Mitchelle and Paul.
To Joanne and all the family
It was a privilege to know Mr.Gour from all those many years ago- he was blessed with great practical skills and when he was in better health I fondly remember that he cheerfully helped put together the furniture in our medical office , and seemed to enjoy every moment doing that!
He faced, in later years ,his medical issues with characteristic and inspiring courage.
May his soul rest in eternal peace,Amen.
All the great times out at the cabin and many of the Holidays spent together will always be remembered!
Thank you Gour family for letting me a part of it!
It was with great sadness that I have heard of uncle Henry’s passing. I remember many times visiting with my Mom and Dad, Laurent and Jacqueline Gour. Sending our love, Philip and Nancy Gour from California.
