It is with heavy hearts that we announce the sudden passing of our brother, son, uncle and dear friend, James (Jim) Alexander Arthur. Jim left us on June 23rd, 2025 at the age of 58. He will be lovingly remembered by his partner and soulmate of 14 years, Nancy Vaisanen, his mother Betty Arthur, sisters Sharon (Neil) Schulte, Caroline (John) de Milliano and brother Norman Arthur. Jim was a favorite Uncle to his nieces and nephews, Chris Schulte (Chelsey), Heather Schulte (Braden), Ryan de Milliano (Sonja), Brendan de Milliano (Reba), Kaitlyn Tuomi (Austin), Alison Arthur (Patrick) and Michael Arthur. He leaves many great nieces and nephews as well. Jim was pre-deceased by his father, Frank Arthur in 2023.

Jim was born in Edmonton and spent his life here, close to his family. He excelled at most of the endeavors he took on. Jim was an excellent moto-cross racer, winning several events in his younger years. His career path landed him at The City of Edmonton as a dedicated employee in the Transportation Department for the past 30 years. While Jim had several vehicles, snow mobiles and motorbikes over time, his vintage 1968 Cougar was his pride and joy. Other than family, the Cougar only took second seat to his beloved cat, Kitty. Jim had a true passion and natural talent for all things mechanical. If Jim couldn’t fix it, it couldn’t be fixed!

To everyone close to Jim, there were two distinct characteristics that we will most remember Jim by. First, his smile and laugh will always be the image we have of him in our memories. He loved to make people laugh, whether genuinely through stories and experiences, or perhaps through a prank or a joke. Either way, you were smiling. Second, Jim always took care of the people dear to him. Family and friends could count on Jim to help with mechanical issues, set up an Opry Stage for Norm to perform at, and caution Nancy about the rain or rush hour traffic. He had you!

Jim’s life was a testament to kindness, loyalty and dedication. He will be deeply missed by his family, friends and colleagues. His memory will live on with all of us.

May his soul rest in peace. Jim, we are all blessed to have had you in our lives.

Arrangements have been entrusted to Trinity Funeral Home.

A celebration of life may be arranged by family and friends at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, those who wish to honor Jim’s memory are invited to make a donation to the Heart and Stroke Foundation.

  1. Our heartfelt condolences on the loss of Jim. I have not seen Jim since childhood. I recall his sense of humour and the joy he provided to his family. We are so sorry for your sudden loss.

    Love your niece/cousin Vicki

  2. My sincere condolences to the family.
Jimmy, going to miss you buddy.
You will be remembered, 50 years of friendship and lots of laughs.
    RIP my friend.

  3. Yes, I’d just like to send my condolences to Betty. And the brother and sisters, I was extremely shocked to hear this Jim will never leave my heart. He was the best friend I had next to Donald.
I had a lot of memories together and a lot of fun growing up as kids. I can’t believe my buddy passed so young. I’ll never forget you, my friend. See, on the other side.

  4. I worked with Jim for almost 17 years. He was a kind and hard working. He was always there if I had questions and helped guide me through the early years of my career. His passing was a shock and something that our yard won’t heal from for a long time. He was an integral part of our day to day operations and the city is a little less bright of a place to be since he left. My condolences to his Family, Friends and fellow Brothers in Union. Jim was great man, he will always be remembered fondly with a smile.
