Marion Eleanor Jevne
With the deepest of sorrow, the family of Marion Jevne announce her passing in the early morning of October 5th, 2024.
Marion is survived by her two daughters Leora-Gaye (David Erno) of Edmonton and Colleen (Iain Johnston) of Slave Lake, her three granddaughters Megan, Kimberly and Rachel Johnston, her sister in law Carol Parks, and her many nieces and nephews: Karl, Clayton, Kristine, Gloria Jean, Carl, Patricia, Judy, Tustan, Bonnie, James, Bill , Robert and Shelley.
Marion was predeceased by her husband Robert Patrick Jevne in 1981, her parents Carrie and John Parks (1980, 1981), her only brother Edwin in 2011 and her daughter Natassia Gayle in 2016.
Marion was born in Rossland, BC during the Great Depression. Her father was a tradesman/handyman/ carpenter so they moved wherever work was available. The Parks family eventually settled in southern Alberta in the small town of Retlaw , AB. Marion was educated and spent her formative years there. The family was eventually lured to Jasper Place in Edmonton where her father was able to utilize his carpentry skills to build houses in the rapidly expanding city.
Marion continued her education by attending the University of Alberta and graduated with an Education diploma to teach grades 1 to 9. Her first job teaching was in a remote one room schoolhouse near Drayton Valley, where she boarded with a farming family and provided many farm children with their early education.
Marion returned to Edmonton to live with her parents in their new home in Parkallen in Edmonton and taught elementary school there.
At a university of Alberta , faculty of Education dance party, she met her husband, Patrick Jevne. They married in August, 1955. Their first home was a small 2 bedroom in Dovercourt, Edmonton. Their first daughter Leora was born in 1959. They moved to Lendrum Place in 1963 to a three bedroom bungalow and then further expanded their family with 2 more daughters : Gayle and Colleen.
Marion became a full time home maker, mother to her three girls , and an avid community volunteer. Her husband taught high school and continued his education to eventually obtain a certificate in library sciences to pursue his dream of becoming a school librarian.
The years of 1980-1981 were the saddest in Marion’s life with the unexpected and sudden deaths of her mother, father and her husband all within an eight month time span.
Marion faced this adversity with strength and determination. She became active in a newly formed community church ( The church of faith, hope and love, with pastor Ron Allen) and enjoyed being a member of the choir, the bible study group and the congregation. She also developed a new love for the Edmonton Oilers and became an active season ticket holder for over 35 years. She also attended the CFL games with the Edmonton pro team.
In 1995 Marion became a very proud grandmother to Megan, followed by Kimberly and Rachel. Being a grandmother added to her focus and she was so very proud and happy.
Marion’s life can be summed up as one of deep passion and dedication towards her family, her love of sports and her amazing cooking, baking, sewing, knitting and crocheting. She was known by others as being very kind-hearted, warm, generous, hard-working, helpful even in her elderly years, down to earth, humble, witty, feisty, and friendly to all, among many other attributes.
A big thank you to all the staff and Dr. Kaur for their exemplary care while in Long Term Care at the Slave Lake hospital, and Dr. Lawal, Dr. Frank, and staff while in emergency and palliative care there.
A service to celebrate the extraordinary life of Marion will be held on December 7th at 1 pm at the Cavalry Lutheran Church in Edmonton at 10815 76 Avenue.
