Mary (Hrabinski) Konevecki
With profound sadness we announce that our beloved mother Mary Konevecki of Edmonton, Alberta passed away on Thursday Feb 20, 2025 with her loving family by her side.
Born on a homestead in Tomahawk, Alberta, Mary was the child of Ukrainian immigrants. Along with her two sisters, the family moved to Montreal when she was 11 years old where she completed secondary school followed by nursing school. Mary travelled around the country working as a nurse in Vancouver, Montreal, Yellowknife and multiple towns in Alberta. She married our late father Joseph “Joe” Konevecki in 1961 and settled down in Peace River. Together they raised five children and became loving grandparents to nine grandchildren. After they retired, they enjoyed volunteering, spending time with family, travelling and meeting new people during their adventures.
Two years after Joe’s death in 2015, Mary moved to Edmonton to be closer to her family. Mom was the heart of our ever-expanding family and she welcomed each new member with open arms.
Mary will be remembered for her unwavering love, loyalty and generosity to her family and friends. She was an avid gardener and found peace and solace in her garden, celebrating the beauty and tranquility of nature. Mary was an active member of Our Lady of Peace parish church in Peace River and volunteered there for many years. Mary loved cooking for her large family and passed on her culinary skills to her grandchildren. She spent many hours sewing and knitting for her children, welcoming each new grandchild with a special homemade blanket. Her strength of spirit and interest in the world remained until her final days. She leaves a legacy of love and devotion to her family.
Mary was predeceased by her parents Christina and Peter Hrabinski, her sisters Tillie Donaldson and Olga Evoniak, her husband Joseph Konevecki and son Michael Konevecki.
She is survived by her son Tom, daughters Terry (Maurice), Michele (Keith), Cathy (Rob) and daughter-in-law Hae Lee. Her beloved grandchildren include Ryan (Caleigh), Danny (Sarah), Jason, Erik (Vani), Nikki (Facineh), Marian, Maxwell, Marissa (Mark) and Aiden (Kashia). Mary was honoured to be a great grandmother to Beckham and Roman and was delighted to hear that another great grandchild is on the way. Mary will also be missed by extended family and friends.
We are grateful for the support of friends and family during this difficult time and in particular would like to thank the staff at Chartwell Hawthorn who cared for and supported Mary in her final years. She truly felt at home there. We would also like to express our gratitude to the Edmonton Palliative home care staff especially Cari, Elisha and Alicia for their kindness and compassion during Mary’s final days.
Funeral services will be held at Good Shepherd Catholic Church in Edmonton on Monday, March 31, 2025 at 11am. Burial will take place at Mount Pleasant cemetery in Peace River, Alberta at a later date.
In lieu of flowers a donation to Operation Smile Canada in Mary’s memory would be appreciated.

Terry and family. Please accept our condolences on the loss of your mom.
Terry and family our thoughts and prayers are with you all in this difficult time. Both your mom and dad were such wonderful kind people! ❤️
My parents, Ed & Bernice Roski, met Joe & Mary through the Catholic Church in Peace River and were very fond of them. Mom moved into a care facility after Dad passed away and she looked forward to her visits with Mary. I cannot say enough kind words about the Konevecki family, especially Terry who I got to know even better as an adult. Both my parents are gone now so I also know sadness of being “orphaned.” I only hope the memories you have of your parents are as equally warm and comforting as those my sister Diane and I have of our Mom and Dad. Time heals … but it takes time. A lot of time. Hugs to you all.
