It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our beloved Tata and Dida, following complications from a cardiac arrest.

Vjeko was born in Prijedor, Bosnia & Hercegovina, to Julijana and Josip.

As a young man he excelled as a professional team handball player for the Prijedor team, Bosnamontaza, and worked for the city planning department.

In 1980, he and his family immigrated to Edmonton and Vjeko worked as a cartographic technologist for the Government of Alberta.  Vjeko was devoted to his Catholic faith, enjoyed sharing jokes with friends, and his greatest joy was his family.

Vjeko is survived by his wife of 47 years, Vikica; his son Ivan (Martina) and their children Julian, Adrian, Cristian, and baby on the way; and his daughter Ivana (Anton) Hlede and their children Klara, Tomislav, and Karolina.

He is also survived by siblings Ankica, Karlo, Miroslav, and Josip, as well as relatives and friends in Bosnia & Hercegovina, Croatia, Slovenia, Sweden, and Canada.

Due to Covid restrictions, a private funeral mass will be held on May 31 at the Nativity of Mary Croatian Catholic Church officiated by Reverend Tomislav Fridl, followed by interment at St. Michael’s cemetery.

The service will be live-streamed at 10:00am Monday, May 31, 2021 at; https://youtu.be/0q5kxdZAGYA

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Caritas Croatia (Zagreb).

Pocivaj u miru Bozjem.

  7. Dear Ivana, Tony, Klara, Tomislav and Karolina,
I was so sad to hear of the passing of your dear Tata and Dido. I have such fond memories of him dropping the kids off at school or picking them up. He always had time for a chat and I could tell he just loved getting to know people. This was even more evident in the conversations we would have after mass at our church whenever he was visiting from Edmonton. Please accept my heartfelt condolences at your incredible loss, and please pass them on to your mama. May you be comforted by all the memories, as well as the knowledge that he has found eternal peace. With much love, Viki and Marin
