William “Lloyd” Fleming, passed this 24th day of December, surrounded by his Loving Family: wife Lavon, step-son William, great nephew Jessie and our Shelby Dog, in our home known as “Legacy”.

Lloyd is pre-deceased by his parents, William and Ruth Fleming, brothers Andy, Bryce and his very special little brother Tom Fleming.

Our family, friends, and community were blessed to have this One of A Kind Albertan known for his gentleness, approachability and generosity. Lloyd had accomplished many things in life through business as the company Fleming Cats and how he mentored many “Fleming Kittens”. Lloyd was very respected for having assisted with the growth and development of many local businesses.

In the last few years, Lloyd would rent a helicopter to travel to his Athabaska River land and different young men would accompany him whom had never “choppered” so they could have a new great experience. In retirement, Lloyd grew over 200 hills of potatoes just to give them away. When he couldn’t garden anymore, he would purchase from the Hutterites to do the same. There were so many acts of generosity and kindness that went unnoticed, but that was Lloyd Fleming, he was not a flashy guy.

A fiercely competitive man that had to win, be it playing ping pong in the shop, winning Pow Day Float entries, horseshoes, or checkers. If Lloyd sponsored a team they had to win! His slow-pitch team “Getter Done” and the Gold Rubber Boot made him so proud in addition to his beloved Golf Team that had won 4 years consecutively, made him love his favorite game even more so.  He couldn’t wait to get the news on team placements, it was as though he was swinging the bat or clubs himself and he always said “they’re all winners”.

Lloyd loved all cultures and respected them, and the culture he admired the most was Native people. He was quoted in the Alberta Venture magazine for stating “I hired Aboriginal people before it was fashionable”.  His appreciation for the families of Lac La Biche was admirable and his love for power saw men was known, and his distaste for the chainsaw safety course was more so, because that’s what made men get hurt.

Our beloved Lloyd, believed his biggest accomplishments were the adventures he had and the friendships he kindled over the years. The fish he caught and the stories he shared around a campfire.

Not only will Lloyd be missed by many, he was terribly missed by our Shelby Dog, so terribly so, she succumbed to a broken heart the very early hours of the 26th of December. He dearly loved our Shelby.

The Honorary Pall Bearers are: Rick Letki, Big Sam McConnell, Allen O’Brien, Brad Heinze, Doug Deschambeau, Craig Ostopovich, Big Ken Karayel, and all the McDonald Men.

A very special thank you to Dean Haaf, Terri Blind, Ericka Romero, and Nila Somonilov for their care to Lloyd.

A remembrance service will be held on Tuesday, December 31, 2024, at 12:00PM in the Devon Room of the Bold Centre (8702 91 Avenue Lac la Biche, AB), with interment to follow in the Willow Park Cemetery in Lac la Biche, AB

From a previous chapter in his life, Lloyd leaves behind his estranged step daughter, 2 sons and grandchildren.

  10. A very kind and generous man with a heart of gold. We shared some great moments together fishing, camping, quadding, and of course socializing over a great tasting glass of port while enjoying a wonderful fire, listening and learning from his past stories and experiences in life. The memories he left behind will be always remembered and treasured. RIP Lloyd. Our condolences to Lavon and family.

  11. Our deepest Condolences to the family. Lloyd was a great friend and business partner. My fondest memories always bring me back to the days when we explored the mountains ( the back country ) on horseback. We had done this for years. Lloyds campfire stories, of course, were always a hit. The cocktails weren’t bad either. Lloyd knew north east Alberta like the back of his hand. He would refer to a specific place by the land description found on a map. I had never before met anyone who could do that consistently. I could write all day. Lloyd you will truly be missed. Rest In Peace My Friend.

  12. Our deepest sympathies on Lloyd’s passing. Lavon and family, our thoughts are with you.

I remember Lloyd as someone with a great sense of humor, he loved a good laugh and sharing his humor with others…likely with a joke or two.

  16. Our condolences to Lloyd’s family and all those who knew him well. Lloyd has been a generous and kind man in the years our family has known him. We are thankful for the time we were given to share his many experiences, learn of his many exploits that literally helped to build the foundations of the community around us, and to benefit from his kindness and charm – and that little smirk and sparkle in his eyes when a joke was shared or a memory was remembered. Lloyd is one-of a-kind and won’t be forgotten.

  21. My sincere condolences to the family. Lloyd and Fleming Cats were there for my family when Alfred died. Alfred always spoke highly of Fleming Cats and enjoyed his years working for them. His father and brothers worked for Fleming Cats as well. He generously hired my son for his first year of apprenticeship in the RAP program. He touched many lives and will be remembered for his many kindnesses. May his memory be a blessing. Wishing you peace.

  22. Sincere condolences to Lavonne and family, I had the pleasure of working with Fleming Cats many years building drill sites, access roads, freezing muskeg access, I learned all about cat work from Lloyd and his experienced cat operators I learned it was easy to drop a cat in the muskeg but sure was difficult to tow back out and a sure way to see the bad side of Lloyd. He use to jokingly say “it only takes 10% be first class” He ran a 1st class operation. Someone once said, no one has but more supers on plates than Lloyd Fleming. I also had the pleasurer of joining Lloyd on a few fishing trips to Lady Gray lake in the Territories, Winnifred Lake and way back when Lloyd owned a small Bell chopper with Tracy Lawton was the pilot we flew to Siebert Lake. Very memorable times. Rest in Peace my friend.
