Martin Antony Holden

Martin Antony Holden of Edmonton, Alberta, passed away on July 11, 2026. He passed away at the age of 65 years old. Martin passed surrounded by his family, who walked with him through his final journey in life.

Martin was born on September 14, 1960, in Wallasey, Cheshire, England. He was the third of five children, born to Tony and Margaret Holden. Martin and his family emigrated to Canada in 1966, when he was 5 years old. The Holden’s first landed in Edmonton, Alberta and established their family home in St. Albert, Alberta. As a boy he would spend countless hours outdoors exploring and fishing along the “mighty” Sturgeon River. He had his moments of mischief and rebellion, but deep down was a sensitive and introverted soul.

A lifelong athlete, Martin was a dedicated long-distance runner who always stayed active. He loved the camaraderie of team sports, playing hockey, soccer and touch football. He was a proud member of The Rummies of St. Albert, and later The Fossils of Victoria. He was fiercely competitive in the best way, never passing up an invitation for a 'friendly' match.

Martin will be fondly remembered for his deep love of music, especially classic rock. A talented, self-taught guitarist, he spent years writing original compositions and playing covers of his favourite rock hits.

Martin brought joy to those around him with his sharp intelligence, quick wit, and endless supply of Monty Python quotes. His proud British roots continued to shine throughout his lifetime, reflecting in his distinct sense of humour and love of a fish & chip dinner.

Martin completed his studies at NAIT in Edmonton, Alberta, earning himself a designation as a Certified Management Accountant (CMA). Martin graduated at the top of his class with distinguished honours. He quickly found his place in the world of accounting, beginning his career at Doyle, Veers & Jackson and later with the Auditor General.

In the early 2000’s, Martin relocated to Victoria, British Columbia, where he re-established his roots alongside two of his brothers, his parents, and extended family. For twenty years, the island was his home—a beautiful backdrop where his children frequently visited him. Together, they built lasting memories exploring the vast beaches, stunning oceanside, and breathtaking scenery of the West Coast. Martin cherished his time on the island before making his way back to Edmonton, Alberta, in 2023.

Martin is survived by his former wife and lifelong friend, Joan, with whom he shared a deep bond and a beautiful family. He leaves behind his beloved daughters, Sara (Michael), Christina (Dane), Alicia (Eddie), and Jessica (Ryan); and his cherished grandchildren, Aiden, Gabriel, Hazel, Eliza, Autumn and Cooper. He is also survived by his siblings, Geoff, Catherine (Greg), John (Lynda), and Dave (Vanessa). Martin is predeceased by his parents, Archibald Antony (Tony) and Margaret Holden.

Cherished and missed by all who knew him. His family rests in the comfort knowing that his pain is gone, and his spirit is at peace. '...and I say, it’s alright.' – The Beatles.

Cremation has taken place under the care of Trinity Funeral Homes. A celebration of life will be held at a later date, with details to be announced by the family in the coming weeks.
