Carol Agnes Chmilar
It is with great sorrow that we announce the passing of Carol Agnes Chmilar on January 29, 2026, at the age of 90.
Carol is lovingly remembered by her children: Linda; Perry (Sylvia); and Darlene. She was a cherished grandmother to Kristy (Chris), Sheena (Fabian), Christopher (Gabrielle), Bradley, Jennifer (Blake), and Brendan, and a proud great-grandmother to Cameron, Carter, Grace, Felix, Maya, Miles, Vincent, and Owen. She will also be dearly missed by numerous relatives and friends.
Carol was predeceased by her beloved husband, Ted; her parents, Leopold and Marie Chvojka; and her siblings (three brothers and one sister).
Born to parents who immigrated to Alberta from former Czechoslovakia, Carol grew up in a household of seven on a homestead just north of Westlock. Life on the family farm instilled in her a deep appreciation for self-sufficiency, sustainability, and independence—values she carried with pride throughout her life. There was always work to be done, and Carol never shied away from it.
Carol later moved to Edmonton, Alberta, where she met and married Ted. Together they raised their family and built a life grounded in love and hard work. Carol was employed for many years at Woodward’s Department Store and later at Eaton’s.
Following retirement, Carol and Ted enjoyed traveling throughout the United States. Family remained at the heart of Carol’s life, and she was a constant presence at her children’s and grandchildren’s activities—school performances, dance recitals, skating, soccer, hockey, Girl Guides, football games, fishing trips, and camping adventures.
Carol was deeply committed to giving back to her community and volunteered extensive time through her local church. Her kindness, generosity, and quiet strength will be remembered by all who knew her.
The family would like to thank everyone for their love and support, with special appreciation to the AHS Palliative Care team, nurses, and doctors who cared for Carol at the University of Alberta Hospital in her final days.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Alberta Heart & Stroke Foundation.
