Marcus James Sexsmith
Marcus James Sexsmith, age 27, passed away on March 27, 2026.
Born on July 27, 1998, in Edson, Alberta, Marcus—also known by his birth name, Marcus Blade Findlay—lived a life that, while far too short, was filled with connection, laughter, and meaning.
Marcus was strong; no matter what he faced, he remained kind and deeply caring. He had a natural way of making people laugh and feel at ease, leaving a lasting impression on everyone he met. He was intelligent and full of dreams, with a spirit that drew people toward him.
He had a true passion for music and was an incredibly talented guitar player. Whether he was playing for himself or others, it brought him joy and allowed him to express who he was. Marcus loved spending time with friends and family, being spontaneous, and simply enjoying life in the moment.
Marcus is lovingly remembered by his many adoptive siblings: Curtis, Carson, Christa, Shaun, Andrea, Sam, Simon, Kyle, Johnson, and Michael Sexsmith, Chantelle, John, Kyle and Savannah Cooper. He is also remembered by his biological siblings: Ryan, Cassandra, Elaine, Tiffany, Billy, Jerry, and Bryanna Findlay. He will be deeply missed by many aunties, uncles, cousins, and all those who had the privilege of knowing him.
A cremation has taken place.
A celebration of life will be held on June 27, 2026 at 10:00AM, in Edson, Alberta, at the Edson Friendship Centre (5023 3 Ave, Edson, AB), where family and friends will gather to honor and remember Marcus.
Marcus will be forever missed and never forgotten. His laughter, his kindness, and his spirit will live on in the hearts of those who loved him.
In memory of Marcus, spread kindness

I will always remember Marcus as the sweet young man that worked with us at dollarama. He was always so helpful and eager to please. So polite and had a wonderful smile. Even when he was no longer there anytime he came in he always made a point of asking how your day was and how you were doing. Rest peacefully Marcus you will be missed by so many
I got to meet Marcus when I was managing the castle motel. He used to stay at the cedars whereas we know it was vacated. All of it was empty, but on a cold the coldest winter he came to the motel. He had no money no rooms and I asked him if he had anywhere to go and he said no and he said could he get a room and he’d pay me later I said I’d give you a room, but the rules are you cannot have anybody in the room. You cannot damage the room or anything, but when the cold passes you have to go, he took the room. He was so polite so kind so helpful. He shovelled sidewalks. He helped me when he could I did give him food. Make sure he got to eat and we talked constantly. He was always happy go lucky it didn’t matter for what reason and then when it warmed up, I asked him if he had any mints or anything and he said no meat so I gave them a pair of expensive meat. The guys left in the room that didn’t want them back so he took him he put them on. He was pretty happy with him and then about three hours later he came back and he came with another gentleman and he says do I have any more mats and I said no I said what did you do with the mitts the gloves that I gave you and he said I gave it to this gentleman here because he needed him more than I did my heart just bur straight then in there I felt a special attachment to that because he had very little, but he was going to help somebody else that had a little as well, so I said I don’t have another pair like that, but I’ll look and see what I have and I gave them all the admits I could give Them, but after that he would come and visit the motel and talk with the motel talk to me and everything I know he in his heart he wanted to talk about the Lord to people. I never got to find out if he ever got that wish or followed through with it because he had laughed Edson. I always thought about him kept him in my heart, and I’m sorry for the passing went way too soon. I’m so sorry. My condolences to his family.
