Svyatoslav Volo Yahnishchak
It is with deep sadness and shock that we share the sudden and unexpected passing of Svyatoslav on November 7, 2025, at the age of 42.
He is survived by his family: his father, Volodymyr Yahnishchak; mother, Myroslava Pereymybida; stepmother, Svitlana Serheyeva; siblings: sisters Anna-Mariya and Olya, brother Patrick, and step-brother Danyyil; as well as numerous cousins, nieces, nephews, extended family, and friends across Canada, Ukraine, Poland, the USA, China, and the United Kingdom.
Born in the beautiful city of Lviv, Ukraine, Slav immigrated to Edmonton, Canada, in December 2002. Even after making Canada his home, he remained deeply connected to Ukraine. He followed the news closely, supported humanitarian efforts, and stayed in touch with family and friends overseas. His roots were a source of pride and identity.
Slav had a bright soul, a kind heart, and a sense of humour that never seemed to run out. He was always there to lend a helping hand - whether to family, friends, or strangers.
He was a gifted chess player from the time he was a little boy. He continued this lifelong passion throughout his life (with an ELO of ~1500!) and even taught children while working as an educational assistant at a First Nations school in Northern Alberta.
He loved the outdoors, and some of his fondest childhood memories were of mushroom picking with his paternal grandfather. He also enjoyed hockey, soccer, history, and good food.
It is sad that your earthly path ended so early, but we know that the soul is eternal and that it is now home with God, where it is full of light and peace. Rest in peace, dear Slav. Вічная і Світлая Памʼять.
He is joining both sets of his grandparents, his paternal uncle Ihor, and his maternal aunt Hanna in heaven.
The family wishes to thank everyone for their support, prayers, and condolences during this difficult time.
The funeral will be held on Monday, November 24th, at 10:00 AM at Trinity Funeral Homes (10530 116 St NW, Edmonton, AB), followed by interment at Rosehill Cemetery and a luncheon.
